The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice (SCPSJ) is a one-of-a-kind facility in Syracuse, renting offices and meeting/event space on three floors to groups dedicated to peace and social justice.  It must live its mission by being as handicapped accessible as possible.  With the installation of four automated doors (two in back to lower level and two front to first floor), and a front door ramp and parking space, the lower and first floors will support access by persons with mobility impairments.

The lower level Community Room is used by both tenants and non-tenants as a meeting/event space who share the mission of peace and social justice.  It is currently ramped and has an accessible bathroom.

With the addition of ramp, accessible parking space and automatic doors, the first floor, housing the offices of the Worker Center, Public Citizen, Alliance for a Green Economy and the Green Party, staff and visitors with mobility impairments will have access to these first floor tenants.  Additionally, third floor tenant, the Syracuse Peace Council, will have use of meeting space on the lower and first levels to assure accessibility for meetings and events.   Approximately 50 persons will be positively impacted by these accessibility modifications.

To insure the safety of our tenants and guests, the SCPSJ hopes to install an up-to-date integrated fire alarm system throughout the building, including alarms in all public spaces that all tenants and guests will hear no matter where they are in the building.  This will replace individual smoke alarms currently throughout the building.

These modifications/additions are anticipated to cost $20,000-$40,000.
